Where we ride

A great deal of time went into choosing Cabra as the base for our riding holidays. Why? We were looking for an area which would offer the greatest diversity of riding thereby allowing guests to choose the rides they wanted, when they wanted them.

To the east of Cabra lies the Subbetica National Park which hosts the majority of our more challenging single track riding. This area offers more trails, tough climbs and "hairy" descents than anyone could cover given a solid two weeks to complete. As a natural park, the area is untouched and protected, indeed you can ride all day and never see anyone - total solitude. The terrain is cut into a variety of rock types including granite, limestone and deep soils. As expected in such an unspoilt area, the opportunity to experience wildlife in its native surroundings is second to none.

Beautiful mountainsTo the north of Cabra are 200km² of the most beautiful mountains in Spain. These montains are avidly planted with Olive trees providing a wonderfully green (very rare in Southern Spain) backdrop to some fantastic cross country riding. In Spain there is a "free to roam" policy meaning there are no boundaries or way-marked bridlepaths. We use this rule to our advantage when cycling in this area. As with the Subettica National Park, routes in these mountains tends to be physically demanding due to the climbing involved but the riding often splits towards wider tracks, offering the opportunity to lift ones head and enjoy the stunning views on offer.

To the South and West of Cabra the terrain is less mountainous. We utilise these areas for a more leisurely type of riding, almost a sight-seeing/touring style of riding. Interestingly enough, this area consistently comes out on top at the end of the week when we ask our guests which area/riding type they enjoyed the most. Although there are many circular routes on offer, many people opt for the straight line option. Here we take you out in the air conditioned mini bus and the rides follow routes which stop at places of interest as you inevitably make your way back to the house.
