FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need to be fit?
In short, it is beneficial but not essential. However, a basic level of climbing fitness and some good level of experience riding a mountain bike off road does help! Due to the nature of our trails there is always going to be an element of climbing.
I'm not feeling at my fittest or I prefer more DOWN than up, can you still accommodate me?
Yes we can as we have easier routes available for intermediate riders. We can also arrange a couple of up lift days (additional cost applies) for the more gravity orientated riders, as well as tailoring our normal AM/XC routes, meaning you'll do more down than up! Please note, advance notice (at the time of booking) is required for arranging easier weeks and/or uplift days (subject to availability).
Are short breaks and long weekends possible?
Yes they are, just email us with your dates and we will check availability for you.
The price includes a free bar. What does this mean?
We offer a generous stock of locally produced lager along with red and white house wine. A selection of fruit juices are also included. If you manage to finish all the beer and wine (which is unlikely) then we can top it up for a small charge.
I don't fancy riding every day or I am coming with a non-riding partner, what other activities are available outside of the accommodation?
You can take a day trip to places such as Cordoba (The Mezquita) using the local bus services, as well as local towns such as Luque, Zuheros and Baena. Other activities available include walking, climbing and horse riding. We can even arrange a tour of the local olive oil plant. All trips and activities are dependent on the time of year and available transport, please contact us for more details (extra costs may apply).
How can I get the best deals on flights?
Using a price comparison website is often the most efficient way of booking flights saving you time and money. Below are a couple of tried and trusted sites we have used in the past: www.skyscanner.net www.moneysupermarket.com
We would like to minimize the cost of the holiday by cooking our own meals. Is this possible?
Yes. Your room comes with a small kitchenette suitable for preparing meals and the village shop located in the village of Zuheros (about 20 minutes on foot, 10 minutes by bike). Breakfast provisions are included in the cost of your holiday.
How much does it cost to eat out?
In the local area you can eat out for about 15€ per person, which will buy you a two course meal with a drink. Menu of the day (3 course and drink) can be had for lunch from as little as 8€ per person. Home cooked meals are available at the house from as little as 14.50€ per person for our pasta dishes and 19.50€ per person for Spanish and other special dishes (inc. 3 course meal and house drinks).
What do I need to bring?
Proof of insurance, we recommend Sports Cover Direct
European Health or EHIC card, available free from: www.dh.gov.uk
Riding helmet (no riding without these - sorry),
Hydration pack (we have these available to hire),
Slime tubes (we recommend Dr Sludge inner tubes available from www.chainreactioncycles.com) or you can buy them here,
Your usual medication/inhalers etc.
You say you have been recommended by the Guardian, can I read the article?
Joyriders were the only Spanish mountain bike holiday to be recommended in the Guardians "Head in the Clouds" article. You can find it at: http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2008/jun/14/lakesandmountains.biking.hiking?page=all
